Sermon by Pastor Lee Sang-jun Title of Sermon: Worshipers with a warrior’s heart! Sermon Text: 1 Samuel 17:39-49 39. David put his sword on over his military attire, but since he was not used to it, he tried walking around. Then he said to Saul, "I cannot go in these, for I am not used to them." So he took them off. 40. Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the brook, put them in his shepherd's bag, his sling in his hand, and approached the Philistine. 41. Then the Philistine drew nearer and nearer to David, with his shield-bearer in front of him. 42. As the Philistine looked around, he saw David and despised him, for he was a young man, ruddy and handsome. 43. Then the Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with a staff?" And he cursed David by his gods. 44. Then the Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the field." 45. Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD Almighty, I come to you in the name of the God of the armies of Israel, who have defied you. 46. Today the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army today to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47. And this assembly will know that the Lord does not save by sword or spear, for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands." 48. And when the Philistine rose up and drew near to meet David, David ran quickly toward the Philistine. 49. Then he put his hand into his bag, took a stone, slinged it, and struck the Philistine in the forehead.
