High point 995 (Doi Tranh) in the Chu Tan Kra mountain range is a high point located about 10km west of the Polei K'leng Special Forces Camp in Sa Thay Town (Le Khanh Camp), 35km northwest of Kon Tum city center. Here, the US army built a solid military base with a battalion of the 4th Infantry Division stationed to protect the Polei K'leng Special Forces Base from a distance. This battalion consists of 5 infantry companies and 1 mixed artillery company of 105mm and 81mm mortars. In addition, this high point was also supported by the firepower of 155mm and 175mm artillery positions and other bases located around... In early 1968, Regiment 209 (also known as the Hanoi Iron Helmet Regiment) was ordered to march to the B3 Central Highlands front and was part of the 1st Division. This regiment was mainly soldiers from Hanoi who enlisted on March 27, 1967. The mission of Regiment 209 was to attack the US Polei K'leng Commando Base. Given the situation that if the Liberation Army could not eliminate the cluster of posts on Hill 995 in Chu Tan Kra, it would be very difficult to attack the Polei K'Leng base, so on the night of March 25 to 26, 1968, the Liberation Army opened fire to attack Hill 995 from two sides. Immediately after that, the US increased the number of troops and aircraft firepower, artillery... The battle ended on the morning of March 26, 1968. Although the US still held the post, 204 US soldiers died and more than 200 soldiers remained forever on the top of Chu Tan Kra. After the battle, the US collected the soldiers' bodies, doused them with gasoline, destroyed them, and used bulldozers to dig holes and bury them in 3 mass graves. Currently, a mass grave with nearly 80 Liberation Army soldiers has been found and gathered, but the other graves have not been found yet. The Hanoi steel-helmeted soldiers still lie somewhere on the top of Chu Tan Kra, which is windy all year round. -------------------------------------- If you find the video interesting, don't forget to click LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and SHARE. ▶️ Channel address: https://www.youtube.com/c/TungTangKhác... ▶️ For more information, please contact: [email protected].
