A recording of a lecture from the Fridays series from 10. 5. 2024 on the topic: He who cannot spell is... or spelling as a stigma. The graphic form of language is inherently secondary, but in languages with a rich literary history, considerable attention is paid to it. And in the case of spelling, the term "not much" is euphemistic: spelling is a red thread running through the entire traditional school teaching of Czech, it is emphasized from the very beginning, when we learn to write, it is an integral part of school testing, and knowledge of assumed, or rather supposed, spelling rules also becomes a kind of personal quality of a person in society. In the lecture, we will discuss the individual forms and levels of the spelling system and the social aspects that are related to it: language management, the phenomenon of grammar nazi, argumentation, and of course, building and maintaining one's own value. Lecturer: Mgr. Hana Dufková, Ph.D., (*1986) graduated from doctoral studies in Czech language, has been working for a long time at the Institute of Czech Language and Communication Theory of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, is participating in a project at the Institute of Psychology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, is writing a textbook, is in the Ask a Scientist project and teaches externally at the Institute of Czech Studies for Foreigners and Communication of the Deaf at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University. She is interested in language didactics, popularization of science, sign languages and many forms of the relationship between language and society, which works on the interconnectedness of mind and language, and individuals in a society of languages. She has stopped believing that language can and should be regulated. In addition to work, she loves train trips anywhere, animals, brewing and her loved ones. It has always adhered to this ethical principle and has a firm will to keep it that way, not only out of respect for the presenters and performers, who are the main creators of the content, but also from a higher moral principle. Until recently, a channel operated in this way was hosted on YouTube without added ads, and when this policy changed, I at least hoped that if the profit generated in this way is attributed only to a third party, i.e. the administrator/owner of this medium, the amount of unintentionally inserted content would be at a reasonable and acceptable level. Unfortunately, this is not the case and I am afraid that no distinction is even made between paid and unpaid channels. I do not yet know of any way to avoid inserted ads in any acceptable way or at least reduce them to an acceptable level. I definitely do not want to support this paradigm, therefore I do not encourage subscribing to a service such as YouTube Premium (179.-CZK / month), which will allow watching videos without ads. If anyone can think of a reasonable solution, I would be very happy for any advice, e.g. to the email listed in the final LLionTV log of most of this creator's videos.
