At 27, Arne Schulz is the youngest district forester in Hamburg. His motto is: the forest is there for everyone. He tries to reconcile the needs of nature conservation and attractive leisure activities for Hamburg's forest visitors. There are always problems in the Harburg mountains caused by illegal mountain bike trails. The young city forester therefore wants to work with mountain bikers to build a trail that protects nature and is fun for bikers at the same time. But will he succeed? For his daily work, Arne has found a colleague who is also young and who shares his vision for the Eißendorf forest. Together with 22-year-old Jan Appelt, he plans to build benches from the wood of the trees in their forest and then set them up for those seeking relaxation. As the son of a forester, Arne has played in the forest since he was a little boy. Even though he doesn't have any children himself, he wants to pass on his experiences to the next generation. That's why he offers trips for children. Because they are the ones who should better protect nature in the future. In winter, the forest becomes dangerous. Then Arne and his colleagues fell trees and bring wood out of the forest with large machines. To ensure the safety of people and animals, they have to close areas and paths to the public. How can the young city forester make walkers, joggers and mountain bikers feel just as comfortable in the forest as insects, rabbits and deer? Jela Henning's Nordreportage accompanies the young city forester and observes him as he balances nature conservation and the enjoyment of the people of Hamburg in the forest.
