He excels at the downhill section of the sixth section, coming in second on two occasions and winning the return leg. As a corporate athlete, he has been active in track events, including the New Year Ekiden. His records for the 5000m are 13 minutes 54 seconds and the half marathon are 63 minutes 10 seconds. During his competitive career, he learned that many amateur runners were suffering from injuries, so he started training sessions to spread the MATSU method for amateur runners and children. He currently coaches and accompanies blind runner Taniguchi, a member of the Japanese Paralympic team, and supports him as he aims to win a medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
