Hakodate is a compact city, with trams and buses running throughout, and the airport is nearby. You can get there by Shinkansen (plus Hakodate Liner), and even by ferry for Aomori residents. There is plenty of gourmet food, hot springs, history, and sights to enjoy in spring, summer, autumn, and winter. When I first moved to Aomori, I kept to myself to prevent COVID-19 infection, but since Hakodate is close by, I have been there five times in just over a year since last summer.
