The castle in Güstrow (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) is one of the most important Renaissance castles in Europe. But for some time now, visitors have been banned from entering. The historic facade is hidden behind printed tarpaulins, and scaffolding covers the castle up to the highest spires. A renovation between 1963 and 1978 saved the castle from decay. Carpenters are carefully replacing rotten roof beams and reinstalling new wood using traditional techniques. Over 200 historic windows are being rebuilt, and the old roof landscape with historic chimneys is to be recreated before hundreds of square meters of roof are re-covered with old plain tiles. Hidden behind the cracks in the facade are old retaining irons and fungus-eaten beam heads from the construction period. These also have to be removed in order to make the building fit for the next centuries. More information: https://www.ndr.de/fernsehen/sendunge... First broadcast: October 26, 2023 #ndr #doku #schloss
