The Gulf of Morbihan in Brittany in western France is ranked among the most beautiful bays in the world. You can go hiking along the coastal paths that offer breathtaking panoramas; Birdwatchers will also be delighted, as the Gulf of Morbihan is an important migration area for many species of birds. Photography enthusiasts will be able to capture unique moments, between sky, sea and unspoiled nature. The Gulf of Morbihan gave its name to the department: Mor-Bihan means "small sea" in Breton. The Gulf of Morbihan offers a unique spectacle where land and sea mingle in changing landscapes over some 11,500 hectares. A vast expanse of seawater, it is an exceptional site for navigation. he Gulf of Morbihan in Brittany is home to around forty islands nestled in a small inland sea 5 km wide and 21 km long. The Gulf of Morbihan opens onto the Atlantic Ocean through a one-kilometer-wide bottleneck located between Port-Navalo and Locmariaquer. Nestled at the bottom of the bay, the city of Vannes is 25 kilometers from the ocean. A true inland sea sheltered from the ocean, the Gulf of Morbihan is dotted with numerous islands: Arz, Gavrinis, Berder, and countless islets.
