In today's video we show you how we grow broad beans. We love eating the almost forgotten beans (fèves), which are also often simply called broad beans or fava beans. We have rediscovered them for ourselves and love growing them in our garden. They are light feeders and, thanks to their nodule bacteria, can supply themselves with the nitrogen they need from the air in the loose soil. That is one reason why we simply cut these legumes off after harvest, leave the roots in the soil and leave the leaves as mulch. Last year, for example, we simply planted broccoli and kohlrabi after the broad beans for later cultivation. Before that, there were parsnips and salsify in the bed.
