The Austrian musician “Udo Jürgens” created the hit song “Griechischer Wein” in 1974. The song really deserves its name, because Jürgens wrote the melody of the song after his vacation on the Greek island of Rhodes - in just 20 minutes. But someone else is responsible for the lyrics: Michael Kunze, award-winning songwriter. He is best known as the author of the musicals “Tanz der Vampire”, “Elisabeth” and “Mozart!” Kunze gave the song the finishing touches with his lyrics, so that “Griechischer Wein” became a hit and stormed the charts in 1975. PS: The first gold record didn't take long to arrive.
