Hey, in this episode of the Post-war series I go back to 1945 and the great migration of people that took place after World War II. Some of them tried to return to their homeland from labor camps in Germany. Others, on the contrary, wanted to stay in the West, fearing repression from the communist governments. Already in September 1945, about 30 thousand people traveled by train every day. Refugee centers were established basically everywhere possible: schools, recreation centers, and even castles and private homes were occupied for this purpose. In the episode I also took up the topic of resettlement among Germans, including the pogrom that took place in Czechoslovakia in Ústí nad Labem. You will learn more by watching my latest film. Most of the materials used in the film come from the public domain.
