I was collecting fossils in the Campanian (Upper Cretaceous) of Hannover Misburg and made some really cool finds. These included a 43 kg sponge, several beautiful crystals and much more. The pit was once the seabed of a shallow sea on the continental shelf (not the typical deep ocean basins) that was flooded with sunlight and where billions upon billions of microscopic algae swarmed, whose dead shells collected and formed the chalk and the chalk marl found here over millions of years. Various other creatures lived with them, from tiny planktonic creatures to the large marine reptiles of the Upper Cretaceous. Many thanks again to Marcel Teske from Outdoor Hannover for allowing me to collect with him for my museum for years!
