More and more refugees who once paid several thousand euros to people smugglers to risk their lives and cross the English Channel from France to England now want to return to Calais, to the EU. Again, illegally and extremely dangerous. Life for asylum seekers in England is becoming increasingly difficult. Among other things, the English authorities have just passed a law that allows migrants to be deported to Rwanda. And on May 1st they published videos of the arrest of the first migrants to be sent there. Deportations will probably begin in July next year. This means that many migrants want to flee again, back to France. Or elsewhere in Europe, again illegally. The people smuggling mafia that first brought the migrants to the beaches of Dover is now organizing the trip back. They are charging between 800 and 1000 euros for an illegal crossing in a truck. For lack of money, some people try to cross the English Channel in small boats at night, among ferries and freighters, on one of the busiest shipping routes in the world. In 2022, reporter Julien Goudichaud accompanied a group of migrants in their rubber dinghy on the English Channel towards England. Now he filmed people returning to Calais, this time hidden on a truck. #calais #englishchannel #tug Video available until 27/05/2027 Link to the media library: https://www.arte.tv/de/videos/118864-...
