The grandmothers in the village, including Grandma Lee Seong-sik, who is the oldest and is called the 'chief' grandmother, cannot leave the cauldron fire all morning for fear of the beans burning. The meju made with such sincerity in Hakgasan Village is characterized by its round shape, not square. The beans are boiled in a cauldron for more than 6 hours, put in a traditional mold, shaped into a circle, and tied with rags to make delicious meju.
