The route in brief Departure from Cantù with the first 25 km that are a constant “eat and drink” on the streets of Brianza, up to Maglio, where the most terrible and exciting 7 km of the race begin that will take the athletes up to the Sormano hill. The last two km of this climb represent the pinnacle of the race and have quickly become a monument of world cycling: the MURO DI SORMANO. Here, the road climbs steeply to an average gradient of 15.8% and a maximum of 27%. The writings on the asphalt and the signs on the roadside will follow one another to make every granfondo rider experience the experience of a true professional. For the less trained, a 2km detour is confirmed that allows you to reach the summit by taking a less challenging climb. Followed by a nose-dive down to Nesso, and then back up the hill to Regatola, where the second climb of the day will begin: the GHISALLO. The gradients are significant, but not as aggressive as Sormano. The climb is rideable and the landscape enjoyable. Those who want to "do the race" can push important gears. The average gradient in the 9km is 6.2%, and only towards the end does it reach its maximum peak of 14%. At the top, the Madonna del Ghisallo with its famous bells and the most famous museum in the history of cycling will welcome you. Once you reach Ghisallo the Gran Fondo is at km 70. Almost 2/3 of the race has been completed, and the greatest difficulties are now behind us. Final Km A long (almost 20 km) and wide descent to Merone allows you to recover a bit of strength before the last 20 km that propose steep climbs and climbs before arriving in the center of Cantù.
