◼︎ On May 18, 2011, Goguryeo iron armor was discovered at the excavation site of Mudeung-ri 2nd Fort on the banks of the Imjin River, surprising the academic world. The armor, made by binding small pieces of iron with leather straps, was also discovered in the Soksam District of Gyeongju in 2009 and was found to be the clothing of a Silla general influenced by Goguryeo. Therefore, this is the first time in East Asia that Goguryeo iron armor has been discovered in its entirety. Mudeung-ri 2nd Fort offers a panoramic view of the action across the river at an altitude of 93 meters. Although the amount of artifacts excavated here is not large, it is believed to have been a Goguryeo military facility where many soldiers were stationed, based on the iron armor, jars excavated with it, and a significant amount of carbonized rice and grain. In the case of Achasan Fortress 4, another Goguryeo fortress that was recently investigated, it is estimated that about 100 soldiers were stationed there, and it is also believed that Mudeung-ri Fortress 2, which is of a similar size, had about 100 soldiers and a commander stationed there.
