The word obedience is heard so often during worship services and in church that we feel like we have to obey somehow, so we sometimes force ourselves to serve or devote ourselves. We do things at church, thinking that there will be some reward for doing obedience, even though we are not mentally prepared. And when something disappoints us, we complain, “What did I do?” In fact, if you look deeper, there are many cases where we did nothing special and did not really put our heart and soul into it. Most people do it for show, or they are dragged out to the field and do the work like cattle that do not want to work. There are many times in our lives when we work moderately and expect a big reward. And then we protest that we really worked hard and why it is only for us. When was the last time you worked really hard to know Jesus? Have you ever had such times? I think we need to go a step further from abusing the word obedience and habitually showing obedience.
