Congresswoman Gleisi Hoffmann (PR) gave an interview to “Reconversa” last October. From a young girl with a vocation for monastic life — she wanted to be a nun — to the political leader who took over as president of the PT in 2017, a lot has changed. However, she maintains her faith focused on social issues, cultivated in two religiously inspired schools. She became a high school activist and never stopped, until she took over the leadership of the party that has already won five of the nine direct elections since the country’s redemocratization. A frequent target of the far right and, sometimes, of friendly fire, she says that the party, whose presidency she will leave next July, “cannot retreat” and that it should not be confused with the government. It is worth watching a summary of that chat, in our vacation reissues, especially in these days when certain sectors seem determined to make Lula’s third term unfeasible.
