“Reconversa” welcomes Congresswoman Gleisi Hoffmann, who has led the Workers’ Party since 2017, a position she will retire from next year. No other party has had its death announced so many times, even though it has won five of the nine direct elections since the return of democracy. Its performance in this year’s municipal elections was modest, and yet the debate has taken hold in the camps of the right and far right over who will try to dethrone Lula in 2026. We spoke with Gleisi about the future of one of the largest left-wing parties in the world, the changes Brazil is going through, the party’s relations with the poor in a country where the factory floor has shrunk considerably, and, of course, Venezuela.
