Fear as a pathology, in fact, is a monster invented by us by which we are then frightened and persecuted, therefore just as there are no limits to our imagination there are no limits to our ability to invent fears, however, precisely because it is our construction, pathological fear can be deconstructed and overcome by us. In metaphorical form, if I evoke a ghost in my mind and then run away, it will chase me scaring me to death; but if, after having evoked it, I do not run away but touch it, it vanishes. Giorgio Nardone, considered one of the greatest exponents of the Palo Alto School, as well as co-founder of the Strategic Therapy Center in Arezzo, states «My experience as a therapist and researcher who has been working on phobic disorders for over 30 years, successfully applying the fruit of his own research, regarding increasingly rapid and effective forms of therapy, pushes me to express the fruit of this prolonged experience because, reading the myriad of popular publications, I have detected enormous confusion on the subject and above all, a series of dangerous beliefs spread». The purpose of this intervention, therefore, is to clarify to the general public what the forms of pathological fear are, how they are formed, how they are maintained and how they can be resolved in a short time.
