We went to Ibirama to visit a water-wheel powered mill and carpentry shop. Built in 1945, this mill is surprisingly well preserved and still in operation. We were welcomed by Mr. Manfred, son of Carlos Hajek, who designed and built this establishment. The mill, which is used for grain processing, has a corn mill made of, among other things, two large pieces of hand-carved stone. Among the many other machines in this section, we also highlight the rice huller built in 1890! In another room, we find a complete carpentry shop with a planer, circular saw, router and other machines. But what is really impressive, besides the years that the Carlos Hajek Mill has been in existence and has remained active, is the impressive power of this water-wheel powered equipment! All this machinery is attached to a system of gigantic wooden gears, with countless connections by leather straps and all of this moves with the force of the water that arrives through a gutter system also built by Mr. Carlos Hajek. Play this video and see how impressive this system is. Shall we Spin? __________________________________ Support our adventure! ???? PIX: [email protected] ????
