The Königssee is a long mountain lake in the Berchtesgadener Land in southeast Bavaria and belongs to the municipality of Schönau am Königssee. It lies at the eastern foot of the Watzmann and is mainly fed by the Saletbach stream coming from the Obersee to the southeast. Because the Königssee is embedded between steep mountain slopes, it is described as fjord-like; in terms of water quality, it is also considered one of the cleanest lakes in Germany.
