The Genderbüebu from Mund VS have turned folk music on its head! Sold-out concerts, the biggest Ländler open-air that Switzerland has ever seen – and they are celebrated like rock stars. What is behind the success of the Genderbüebu? ????▶️ Stream more “Potzmusig” on: ???? https://www.srf.ch/play or ???? / @srfunterhaltung More about the video ––––––––––––––––––––––––––– They are a true phenomenon in the Swiss music scene. What once began as “a little organ playing on the alp” has developed into one of the hottest folk music groups in the country. The Schwyzerörgeler and mountain farmers Kilian Schnydrig, Raban Pfammatter and Marco Gurten as well as the bassist and organizer Simon Schnydrig now fill large halls and are celebrated like rock stars! In 2024 they played their sold-out "Geit de scho" tour and then invited thousands of folk music fans to Naters in Valais for their own festival. SRF accompanied the Genderbüebu with the camera for a whole year. The result is more than just a documentary. It is a road movie through Switzerland, an intimate portrait and a valuable contemporary document that shows how you can reach a large audience with folk music. The tour leads from Burgdorf BE via Rothenthurm SZ, Wattwil SG and Klosters GB via Balsthal SO back to Valais. The camera not only captures the group's energetic performances, but also the quiet, authentic moments behind the scenes. You can see the band members on the alp, high above the valleys of Valais, how they are inspired by the mountains and what challenges they have to overcome in order to do justice to their ascent. The documentary shows how the Genderbüebu reinterpret traditional music with passion and dedication, thereby triggering a real boom in Swiss Ländler music. This is also how you see the Rusch-Büeblä, who are celebrating great success with the Genderbüebu. But the next generation is also important to the musicians from Valais: They invite up-and-coming talent such as the Schwyzerörgeler Marc Tschanz, the Toggeburger Meitle Musig, or Zmoos Art to their concerts, together with greats of folk music such as the alphorn player Lisa Stoll, the quartett waschächt - or the Rusch-Büeblä. This portrait is not only a must for fans of the Genderbüebu, but for everyone who has a heart for music and culture. It conveys a piece of Swiss identity and shows that tradition and modernity can go hand in hand harmoniously.
