After ten years of styleless fucking against everything & everyone, the time has come to give something back to the people. So we sent Tom Staal & cameraman Nick Toet on the road with travel agency Geenstijl. To Syria, indeed. To do something for displaced, expelled and by God & Allah abandoned refugees. Because the hell with Giro555, we prefer to do something ourselves. Armed, no, sorry, packed with bottles of water from our own inexhaustible supply (1), prepaid mobile phones for refugees to call their families and a record case full of soundtracks, Tom & Toet flew to Gaziantep in Turkey. There they crossed the Syrian border via Kilis, to a refugee camp near the town of Azaz. That is located in an area controlled by the Free Syrian Army, 30 kilometers north of the Aleppo hotbed. But unlike the dry standups you usually see, GSTV recorded as much as possible along the way. How comfortable are the hotels of journalists who come to report suffering, how do you actually fix a fixer and is the weather also nice in those parts?
