In this video, I will discuss a very simple but very important subject: how to determine the size of the packing, or its gauge. I will show the information contained in the manufacturers' manuals, but I will also demonstrate that with some simple measurements of the stuffing box and the shaft's protective sleeve or the shaft itself, and with some extremely simple calculations, how to determine the gauge and the number of packing rings to be placed in the stuffing box.
