When planting lettuce, a belt planting machine is used, as is the case with the Schuhmacher family from the Filderebene, for example, because this saves time. The soil is important for the optimal growth of the lettuce, says Janik Schuhmacher, a farmer from the Stuttgart area: The soil should be crumbly on top and firm at the bottom so that the plant can be supplied with water across the entire surface. Finally, a film is placed over the seedlings to cover them, which should protect them from frost, among other things. THE COLORFUL VARIETY OF SALADS When it comes to lettuce, a basic distinction is made between summer and winter varieties. The summer varieties include: - Batavia - Oak leaf - Iceberg lettuce - Endive - Radicchio - Lollo Rosso - And the classic: head lettuce The winter varieties include: - Chicory - Lamb's lettuce WHY EATING SALAD IS HEALTHY Lettuce is made up of 90 to 95 percent water, and contains hardly any carbohydrates and therefore hardly any calories. At the same time, however, most types of lettuce also contain important substances for our bodies, such as beta-carotene or vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, folate and vitamin C. Compared to its low calorie density, lettuce has a high nutrient density. And: Salad is rich in fiber, so it fills you up quickly. You can see which nutrients are found in salads and which variety is important in this video! ----------- Author: Lenny Lorenz Image source: Adobe Stock photohampster, Elena, nedim_b, sirawut, akepong srichaichana ----------- ► • Salad bowls from the supermarket in the test... ► • Salad dressing - how good are ready-made... ► • Vitamins in vegetables: What you can eat raw... ► • Greens from carrots, radishes, kohlrabi... ► • Vegetable slicer check: Where are the quali... ----------- ► An article on the topic “How healthy is salad?” can be found here: https://www.swrfernsehen.de/marktchec... ----------- ► More information about the show on our homepage: https://www.swrfernsehen.de/marktcheck/ ► More about Marktcheck on our Facebook page: / marktcheck ► You can subscribe to our channel here: http://x.swr.de/s/13x1 ► More about our Ökocheckers can be found on Instagram: / oekochecker ► Comments are welcome - but please observe the netiquette: https://www.swr.de/home/netiquette-10... ► Legal notice: https://www.swr.de/impressum/ #salat #salatsorten #romanasalat
