Fur is still popular on winter jackets. It looks warm and classy. Many people also see fur as a symbol of luxury. But the fact that an arctic fox or a raccoon dog has to suffer for it is something that is ignored. According to a count by the Zurich animal protection organization, half of the fur products in Swiss shops come from raccoon dogs, mainly from Finland. Around 160,000 raccoon dogs live there in narrow cages, crammed into grid floors. At the same time, 1.6 million arctic foxes are bred, oversized animals that are supposed to provide as much fur as possible. They are also known as "monster foxes."
