Fur: Whether on collars, hats or shoes - you see fur almost everywhere in winter. Given the amount and the bad reputation that fur now has, most of it can't be real, can it? Unfortunately, it is: Many people wear real fur on their clothes without knowing it. But why is fur on clothing not properly labelled? And how can you even tell the difference between real fur and fake fur? Nadine Hadad wants to find out for PULS Reportage! To do this, she gets help from animal rights activist Svenja Gruszeczka. REAL FUR IN THE WARDROBE - WITHOUT KNOWING IT? According to a study by the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (2017), 38% of people who wear real fur bought it unintentionally or unintentionally. Crazy! On a winter jacket as a collar, on a hat as a pompom or as a warm lining on winter boots - clothes with fur are sold in droves. Well, if the bobble hat only costs six euros, then the fur can't be real, can it? Unfortunately, this is often a misconception. Real fur, i.e. fur from foxes, rabbits, etc., is not necessarily more expensive than faux fur. But why is it often not labeled correctly? In the EU, for example, if real fur is the main component of a garment, i.e. makes up more than 20 percent, nothing needs to be labeled in terms of fur (source: European Textile Labeling Regulation, 2011). REAL FUR OR FAKE FUR - HOW DO YOU RECOGNIZE THE DIFFERENCE? Phew, but how do you, as a consumer, recognize whether the fur on a garment is real fur or faux fur? Animal rights activist Svenja has a few tips for Nadine. For example, the leather test: real fur usually comes directly from the leather, i.e. the skin of the animal, while faux fur is woven fabric into which the fur has been integrated. The wind test can also tell whether it is real fur: real fur blows fluffy in the air, fake fur is much heavier and stickier. You can see which other tests and characteristics there are to distinguish between real fur and faux fur and what should change in the labeling of fur in the PULS report. #PULSReportage #Fur Editors: Maria Christoph, Claudia Gerauer, Heike Schuffenhauer Camera: Chris Hofmann, Nicole Christmann Editing: Johannes Schmidt Graphics: Felix Holderer, Lukas Brenninger Channel Management: Lisa Lindhuber, Jan Rothe ----------------------------------------------------------- PULS REPORTAGE ON INSTAGRAM Memes, get involved, even more info: Nadine takes you behind the scenes of PULS Reportage on Instagram – and Ari and Meini are there too, of course! ► Follow us on Instagram: / pulsreportage THE PULS REPORTAGE PLAYLIST Our playlist contains the songs from the videos.
