The Esso gas station was a cult object in Hamburg's St. Pauli district. It was not only a gas station, but also a meeting place, late-night shop, bar, supermarket, car wash, underground car park and much more. In 2014, it had to be demolished along with the so-called Esso high-rises because of the risk of collapse. The new building is still pending. The first tenants are expected to move back in in 2025. The report is from 2006.
