ATTENDANCE LIST: https://forms.office.com/r/D9XeK5Zkx5 The Center for Trade Union and Labor Studies (Cesit), linked to the Institute of Economics at Unicamp, invites you to the mini-course “The Delay of the Future and the Cordial Man”, by Marcio Pochmann and Luís Fernando Vitagliano, authors of the book of the same name. The objective is to offer a critical analysis of the historical and cultural structures that influence contemporary Brazil, addressing the barriers that hinder the country's progress towards a project for the future. The cycle will have five classes about the book, with presentations given by the authors themselves and invited debaters. The meetings will be held remotely, always on Mondays, from 7 pm to 8 pm, and, at the end of the mini-course, a certificate of participation will be issued to those who attend 4 of the 5 classes. The activity is free and exclusive to those who register. Class schedule and topics 11/18 - Brazil: contemporary dilemmas. Debate with Daniel Coronato, Isabel dos Anjos, Luis Vitagliano and Márcio Pochmann 11/25 - Twilight of the Western modernity project and change of era in Brazil, with Márcio Pochmann 12/02 - The “cordial man” and the absence of the people in the formation of modern Brazil, with Luis Vitagliano; 12/09 - From the crisis of representation to national deformation: the collapse of the New Republic, with Márcio Pochmann; 12/16 - Social consequences of the change of era to the Digital Age, with Luis Vitagliano. About the book and central reflections “The Delay of the Future and the Cordial Man” proposes a critical analysis of Brazilian history, questioning “presentism” and the lack of a project for the future. With five chapters, the book examines the “deformation” of the modernity project and the figure of the “cordial man” as structuring elements that prevent Brazil from developing an inclusive and autonomous model of development. The book suggests that, in order to overcome this cycle of delay, it is necessary to adopt a long-term vision and abandon practices that sustain the status quo. The short course is intended for those who seek to understand the challenges and potential of Brazil in a global context.
