About :

The mighty, seven-part bells of the Protestant town church in Freudenstadt, a town in the north-eastern Black Forest, are shown and presented. The Protestant town church in Freudenstadt immediately stands out due to its special design as a so-called corner church. Alongside the St. Concordia Church in Ruhla, it is the only church of this type in Germany. The church was built in the southern corner of the market square. Its location and position were determined solely by the symmetrical design of the town's structure. The commissioner for the construction of the town as such and the church was Duke Friedrich I of Württemberg. The foundation stone was laid on May 1, 1601 according to the plans of the master builder Elias Gunzenhäuser, who also designed the roof structure. However, he died before the building was completed in 1606, after which it was completed under Heinrich Schickhardt. The exact date of the consecration of the church is not known, but it is known that the then-responsible town pastor Andreas Veringer held his first sermon in the town church on May 1, 1608. However, the church was not finally completed until the pulpit was added on January 29, 1614. The Thirty Years' War began to cause the church to begin to decay, which made initial repair work unavoidable. The church was badly damaged when Freudenstadt was conquered towards the end of the Second World War. It was rebuilt between 1947 and 1950 under the direction of Paul Heim. The exterior still corresponds to its original appearance today. The last major renovation of the church took place recently between 2019 and 2021. The church received its first five-part bell ringing for its consecration. In 1604, the east tower had a four-part bell ringing. A total of three bells from this chime have survived to this day: the two historic bells by Bernhardt Lachamann and Hans Eger from 1500 and 1451, and a Gothic fis'' bell, which is now housed in the town's cemetery. In 1935, Heinrich Kurtz from Stuttgart added an ais° and a cis' bell to the chime. However, these bells were confiscated and melted down during the Second World War. In 1952 and 1958, Heinrich Kurtz first cast a new fis' bell, and later the cis' bell. In 1998, to mark the 400th anniversary of the town of Freudenstadt, the baptismal bell and the Dominica were cast by Albert Bachert in Heilbronn, followed in 1999 by the Gloriosa. --------------- THE RINGING BELLS: Bell 1 (Gloriosa/Christ's bell) fis°+7 7,960kg d=2,267mm 1999, A.
