It is one of our jewels, from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel via the Atlantic Ocean, the French coastline is one of the most beautiful in the world. Every summer, 1 in 2 French people who go on holiday choose it as their destination. On the agenda, sunbathing, swimming, and water sports. With 5,800 km of coastline and fine sandy beaches, it only represents 4% of French territory, but alone concentrates nearly 40% of second homes. On the seafront, places are expensive so owners and professionals fight to keep their privilege. And between them, it is often war. To fight against fraud and small schemes of all kinds, the police officers of the DDTM, the departmental directorate of territories and the sea, are increasing their interventions. Along our coasts, these specialized agents hunt down illegal constructions. Despite their efforts, each year on the coast the tension rises a notch, because of global warming. And erosion is intensifying. The coastline is retreating by 2 to 3 m per year. In the short term, more than 1 million French people are threatened by flooding. For some, it is already too late: the country has its first climate refugees. Who owns the French coasts? What threats weigh on them? Between privileges, abuses, and scandals, an investigation into the underside of the French coastline. Director: Céline De Magalhaes
