The container investment company P&R defrauded around 54,000 investors of a total of around 3.4 billion euros. The business model: P&R sells freight containers to investors, rents them out and buys them back. This brings a good and reputable return for customers. The company has been successful for four decades. But in 2018 the company falters. Investigations show that one million of the containers sold to investors do not even exist. P&R goes bankrupt. The billion-dollar deal turns out to be the fraud of the century. Many of the victims have lost everything, some have lost their entire pension provision. Who is responsible for one of the biggest fraud cases on the German capital market?
