In December 1964, when the electrification of the Hokuriku Main Line was extended to Toyama, the 481 series (485 series) "Raicho" began running as the first express train in the country that could operate across AC and DC electrified sections. The "Raicho" express train was a pioneer in the era when the domestic express train network was expanding, but at its peak it grew to boast the largest number of trains among conventional line express trains. It was also a unique train that continued to run while maintaining the same series and JNR express color for 47 years, even after the JR takeover, until its operation ended in March 2011. This film was shot in 2008, three years before the retirement of the 485 series "Raicho". With the cooperation of JR West, we recorded the operation, details of each car that made up the train formation, and the detailed general inspection at Suita Factory, which was the last of the company's 485 series trains. In addition, archive footage spanning approximately 40 years is also included and explained, including the Shirasagi, *Kaetsu, *Thunderbird, the *Hokuetsu when it departed and arrived in Osaka, the Kagayaki, *Super Raicho, *rare formations, *special trains, and more. With the opening of the Shinkansen, the Hokuriku Main Line has now been converted into a third-sector railway, but you can enjoy watching the exploits of these famous trains from the past that ran through a bustling era. *Footage marked with an asterisk is included in the commercially available DVD version of this work.
