In the Hyogo Prefectural gubernatorial election following the loss of his position, former Governor Saito Motohiko was re-elected with over 1.1 million votes. The winner was former Hyogo Prefectural Governor Saito Motohiko (47). Saito lost his position after the prefectural assembly passed a motion of no confidence. He ran in the re-election as an independent and won over 1.1 million votes, defeating six newcomers including former Amagasaki Mayor Inamura Kazumi, winning his second term. Saito Motohiko, certain to win: "I am truly happy that so many people supported me. I have also started a new relationship with the prefectural staff, and will work with the prefectural assembly members to move forward with policies. It is important that all of the people of Hyogo work together to move forward with prefectural government." The turnout for the gubernatorial election was 55.65%, 14.55 points higher than the previous election.
