At home he often saw his parents drunk: quick-tempered, unsettling, frightening. When his mother and father were sober, they promised to improve. Nicolas was not only emotionally tossed back and forth, but also commuted between home and his grandmother's house. At some point Nicolas and his mother moved in with his grandmother. But the alcoholism remained. In 2012 Nicolas' mother died from the consequences of her alcohol addiction. Nicolas' aunt took the ten-year-old in. As a child, Nicolas had severe behavioral problems and was considered a system breaker. The youth welfare office is called in. He finds the understanding he needs in a special school. Here - as later in the "Upwind" group at the Radolfzell addiction counseling service - he meets people who understand Nicolas' unbridled anger. They give him support and guidance and strengthen his self-esteem. Today, Nicolas is stable. His passion for music and his desire to be a role model for others help him to look positively into the future.
