Ken-chan Ramen is an eternal new release. It was launched in 1988 as a successor to the "Omoshiro Cup" (released in 1985), a cup noodle brand for children developed by Sanyo Foods, known for Sapporo Ichiban. It was a pioneer of collaboration products, using Shimura Ken, who was popular among children at the time, as its image character. There are three flavors: soy sauce flavor, curry flavor, and a tanmen-style "egg ramen" that was added at the end. The predecessor, "Omoshiro Cup," had a selling point of including a bonus toy as a standard accessory, but this product has been changed to include an illustrated sticker with a speed lottery, and a system has been adopted where you can scratch a scratch card and exchange it for a prize if you get a winning combination. However, while the "Omoshiro Cup" was "offering toys for both boys and girls (depending on the time of year)" and "a set of ramen and a toy like a free snack," this product has a strong style of "offering only one Shimura-themed toy" and "there is no prize, only stickers remain if you don't enter." It's quite unique. The prizes given out were changed periodically, and ballpoint pens, erasers, slide puzzles, etc. were available. Nowadays, there are cases where they sell for a reasonable price on online auction sites, and even more amazingly, there have been cases where stickers (especially winning ones) were sold for high prices, rather than toys. There is also a mysterious point at the end of the commercial where it is always explained as a "new release", and Shimura also joked in his own comedy skit, "It's been 8 years and it's still a new release...". There were rumors on the street that "'Ken-chan Ramen New Release' is an official registered trademark" and "They advertise it as 'new release' to indicate the timing of the prize change", but Sanyo Foods later revealed that "they just used the expression 'new release' because it was the easiest to understand". Sales ended around 1996. However, Ken-chan Ramen is still alive in the hearts of (some of) Japanese people as a new release. ---------------------------------------------------------------■Tokyo Stream Channel I'm uploading a video about Japanese habits.
