Live from Algeria Part with Abdou Semmar: When traveling to or from Algeria, it is essential for passengers to have a valid passport and to respect the rules regarding the transport of foreign currency. According to Algerian customs regulations, any undeclared transport of currency, beyond the authorized amounts, may result in the seizure of funds and legal proceedings. Passengers can carry up to 1000 euros without declaration, but must declare any amount between 1000 and 7500 euros by presenting a certificate proving that the funds come from a foreign currency account in Algeria. This rule applies to all points of exit from the territory. Since November 21, 2024, a new rule limits the amount of 7500 euros per passenger to only once per calendar year, replacing the old provision which allowed this amount to be carried on each trip. A certificate of origin of the funds remains mandatory. This new measure will dangerously complicate the lives of Algerians and, above all, will prevent them from freely using their own money. Explanations.
