The Home Invaders Gang (Forcible Entry) In 1994, a series of burglaries and home invasions took place in the Detroit area. The burglars turned out to be part of a local gang nicknamed “The Home Invaders,” whose crimes included insurance fraud, theft, and illegal lottery operations. The Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF) opened an investigation, and with the cooperation of a gang member who was caught at the scene of the crime, they were able to obtain the names, addresses, and phone numbers of sixteen other members of the gang, whom through surveillance led the Bureau to make arrests. In December 1995, the FBI was able to indict twenty-one members of the gang through information gathered from tape recordings, evidence collected during searches, DNA, and the testimony of cooperating gang members. The task force successfully dismantled the gang, and as a result, solved more than two hundred crimes, including murders and rapes in the Detroit area.
