About the Farm: Jaguari Farm, currently called Santa Úrsula, is the only property in Jaguariúna that has remained in the same family since its founding over 200 years ago. It belonged to Antonio Barbosa and Úrsula Franco, whose heir, granddaughter Luiza, married João de Ataliba Nogueira, the Baron of Ataliba. He owned the Santa Úrsula farm, in the then district of Jaguari, now Jaguariúna. The Jaguari train station operated there from 1875 to 1945. He was president of the Mogiana Railway Company between 1884 and 1896 and Vice-President of the then Province of São Paulo in 1889. Before the arrival of coffee, in 1847, the farm produced six thousand arrobas of sugar per year. With the decline of the sugar mills, it became a major producer of coffee and later invested in other crops. Since the distance between one city and another was very long, the farms usually provided rest stops, and for this reason, Santa Úrsula welcomed everyone from celebrities to people who came to herd cattle and explore the backlands. The farm had a donkey-drawn tram to transport people and goods. The Baron of Ataliba dedicated himself to the farm and the Mogiana Company, which he called my youngest daughter. The route was from the farm's headquarters to the (old) Jaguariúna Station. There are several photographs of illustrious visitors taken on the animal-drawn tram. One of them shows Rui Barbosa and Dona Maria Augusta sitting on one of the only two benches. At the time of the Baron, it was a coffee farm, which was the black gold of the region, and must have had around a thousand acres. It had a large number of employees and, since it was difficult to reach the farm in the early days by horse-drawn carriage or trolley, visits were long, lasting more than a month. It was a farm that showed the strength of women. Úrsula remained in the population's imagination, she was the Baron's youngest daughter. She was a reference, a very good woman, but demanding and angry, and this left a big mark on the families, especially the Italian immigrants, because almost all of them had some kind of work connection with Úrsula.
