This is how Coco (23) feels: She has emetophobia. This is an irrational fear disorder, especially that which has to do with vomiting. Coco's story of suffering began in childhood: She suffers from acetonemic vomiting, i.e. frequent bouts of vomiting. At some point, this develops into her emetophobia. Coco's anxiety disorder becomes so bad that she is admitted to a psychiatric hospital with suicidal thoughts. When she encounters the term emetophobia for the first time, a huge weight is lifted from her shoulders: she finally knows what is going on! When you see Coco today, it is hard to imagine how much her phobia dominates her life: before every step out of the front door, Coco has to collect herself and take a deep breath. She takes numerous safety precautions in case she might feel sick on the way. But that's not all: Coco avoids all places where she thinks she might be confronted with vomit. And although panic dominates Coco's life, hardly anyone knows about the illness. That's why Coco wants to educate people about her anxiety disorder! And what's more: she wants to face her fear and plans to travel by train and eat in a restaurant - a huge challenge for emetophobes! In our new TRU DOKU we will see whether Coco succeeds in the challenge. Welcome to TRU DOKU!
