First aid - that's exactly what the DLRG lifeguards are all about. In an emergency, that even means saving lives. A dream summer and full beaches always mean saving people from drowning, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation or other resuscitation measures for the volunteer lifesavers. After all, 448 people drown in Germany every year... Do you know how first aid works? It's been ten years since Aminata's last first aid course. Aminata only finds water itself great until it's time to go deep in. For her new "follow me.reports" documentary, she's going to the DLRG in Scharbeutz on the Baltic Sea. Instead of refreshing herself, Aminata is looking to brush up on first aid tips and tricks. The Bay of Lübeck is just one of many locations for the DLRG (German Life Saving Association). With 1.8 million members and supporters and 40,000 lifeguards, the DLRG is the largest water aid organization in the world. The DLRG was founded in Leipzig in 1913. Since then, the people who volunteer have made first aid their motto. Help is provided in the sea, on the beach or in the swimming pool, wherever there are lots of people swimming in the water. One of these many volunteers is Kristin. She takes Aminata by the hand - and to the beach. Despite the great weather, this has little to do with vacation. Because the sea looks calm on this day, but the Bay of Lübeck is more dangerous than it looks. What does working as a lifeguard actually entail? What is the best way to draw attention to yourself when drowning? These are just a few of the community questions that Aminata gets to the bottom of in her new report.
