On July 21, 2023, the Mecklenburg Railway and Technology Museum was in flames right next to Schwerin Central Station. The firefighters were just able to prevent the old vehicle hall, workshops and archive rooms from being completely destroyed. You can also find this and other documentaries in the ARD Mediathek: https://www.ardmediathek.de/dokus A blessing in disguise: the locomotives survived the fire. But the archive with thousands of documents and many exhibits, such as old uniforms, were lost forever. Shortly after the fire, the members of the Mecklenburg Railway Friends Schwerin Association tried to save documents soaked by the extinguishing water. But the real challenges are still waiting: the roof of the vehicle hall absolutely has to be repaired.
