However, Franz Gruber (Siegfried Rauch) is not necessarily the priest you recognize at first glance: he wears a leather jacket and rides a heavy motorcycle, looks good and is very charming with the ladies. But despite his cosmopolitanism, Gruber has the demands of his job firmly in mind and vehemently represents the ideals of his church. The residents of the town welcome their new priest with great goodwill. Gruber has no idea that he will soon find himself in a serious conflict of conscience: the young Hannes Reyer (Michael Negri), son of a wealthy farmer, is causing trouble as a poacher in the local forests. When he is surprised one day by forester Auer, he shoots him. While the citizens of Ried are wondering who the murderer could be, Hannes confesses to Gruber -- without showing the slightest remorse. He knows full well that Gruber is bound to keep quiet by the seal of confession. The priest is helpless as he has to watch as Hannes continues his life as a rich farmer's son, who is adored by women. Finally, there is a hot lead: the gun with which the forester was shot is found in the workshop of the young, friendly car mechanic Ernst Nortinger. However, Ernst had only sold the dead animals on behalf of his friend Hannes, who, however, strengthens the police's suspicions. In view of this unscrupulousness, Gruber decides to take a serious step.
