As survivors of a war, in 1994, more than a billion people were suffering from hunger all over the planet. The biopic Josué de Castro – Citizen of the World pays homage to a man who pointed out the causes and consequences of the hunger that kept those below the poverty line from human dignity and, above all, sought alternatives to change this panorama. The film portrays the life and work of the doctor, philosopher, sociologist and geographer from Pernambuco who dedicated his life to one of the greatest and eternal problems of humanity. Author of several books that discuss hunger as a political issue, Josué represented Brazil in several international organizations, such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), but ended up being exiled by the military dictatorship. He humanized geography and sociology by inserting man and his circumstances into the world of maps and statistics. He portrayed poverty and inequality without losing hope or failing to propose solutions, emphasizing that humanity has enough natural, technical and financial resources to solve this problem.
