We will begin a series of Figures of Speech. Figures of Speech are expressive resources that allow us to go beyond the literal meaning of words; they make the text more expressive, create mental images, and add a touch of originality. They are present in literature, music, advertising, and in everyday life. There are many of them and they are divided into: figures of sound; figures of construction; figures of thought; figures of words. Figures of Sound explore the sounds of letters and words. They focus on sonority and rhythm, making the language more musical. There are 4 of them: alliteration; assonance; paronomasia; onomatopoeia. ALLITERATION – repetition of consonant sounds; ASSONANCE – repetition of vowel sounds; PARONOMASIA – words with repeated sounds but different meanings; ONOMATOPOEA – reproduces sounds in the text. #portugueseteacher #grammar #figuresofspeech #figuresofsound #poetry #linguistics
