Snails in the garden - this year they are everywhere. They nibble on vegetables and help themselves to the salad bar. In this video you will learn how to effectively control snails to protect your garden. We show you a variety of methods and tips for snail control, including beer traps, eggshells, salt, snail pellets and more. Snails gather at dusk and hide under objects such as plates and pots during the day. A simple method of snail control is to collect them in the evening and feed them to chickens or dispose of them in another way. Beer traps are also a popular method, as snails are attracted to the smell of beer and crawl into the trap to drown. There are many home remedies for snail control on the Internet, but not all of them are effective. Methods such as sprinkling eggshells, ash or coffee grounds have proven to be ineffective. Sprinkling salt on snails is also not recommended, as it means a painful death for the snails and is problematic from an animal ethics point of view. A natural method of snail control is to use beneficial insects. Birds and the tiger slug are natural enemies of snails, but nematodes, small roundworms, are also an effective method of snail control. Another option is to use snail pellets. Good snail pellets contain iron III phosphate, which is harmless to other animals, while bad snail pellets contain toxins that can also be dangerous to birds and pets. In addition to the methods mentioned, there are other protective measures to keep snails away. PVC lettuce collars can be placed around plants to make it more difficult for snails to get in. A newer method is the Snailstop electric snail fence, which is placed around raised beds and deters snails by giving them a mild electric shock without harming them.
