Brexit and austerity policies are making poor families in Britain so desperate that they are forced to steal to feed their children. Bread ???? and baby food ???? in particular are being stolen from British supermarkets with increasing frequency. The British ???????? are in the worst financial situation for decades. The Tories' harsh austerity measures, combined with Brexit and high inflation, are driving more and more Britons, even in the middle class, into real poverty. Taxes are higher than they have been in 70 years. According to a study, 3.8 million Britons live in permanent poverty, one million of them children. The numbers have doubled since 2017. This is leading to a frightening increase in shoplifting. In twelve months, more than 400,000 thefts were reported in England and Wales. That was almost a third more than the previous year and the highest level since records began. The capital of shoplifting is Leeds. More and more people are stealing out of sheer necessity. They don't steal valuables, but bread, milk, baby food, and diapers. But it's still a threat to the shops' existence, because the police ???? don't help them. So they're helping themselves now. Farrah McNutt used to steal herself, and now she's founded a startup to help increasingly desperate shop owners. She knows all the shoplifters' tricks.
