We can look at the field fortifications created in a few days near Rakovník in the fall of 1620 through the lens of military manuals of the time, which were published for the needs of the officers and military leaders of the time. It was not always possible to follow the instructions exactly, and the theory often had to be adapted to the terrain and the possibilities of the army in practice. Nevertheless, the Ráková fortifications correspond to the theories of the time and, even after 400 years, testify to the generally valid military tactics of the time.
