The FIDE World Chess Championship is underway! Grandmaster Ding Liren will DEFEND his World Champion crown against Indian prodigy and Grandmaster Gukesh Dommaraju in a 14-game match, with a classical tempo, where the first player to reach 7.5 points will become World Champion. We will be covering the ENTIRE event from the Chess.com studio in Madrid, where we will be joined by the brilliant @DivisTv, @ajedrezconpepecuenca and @Ajedrezconmiguelito. GM Ding Liren is the reigning World Champion. Ding finished second in the 2022 Candidates Tournament and earned the right to play for the crown when GM Magnus Carlsen abdicated the throne. Ding then defeated GM Ian Nepomniachtchi in the tiebreaks of one of the most exciting world title matches in recent years to claim the crown. GM Gukesh Dommaraju is the youngest challenger in history. The Indian prodigy qualified for the 2024 FIDE Candidates Tournament via the FIDE Circuit. Considered by many to be an underdog, Gukesh put in an exceptional performance, winning five games and losing just one, and finishing in first place by half a point.
